Morocco made for a brilliant starting point into Africa. The landscapes showed extreme variety and no drive ever got monotonous. The people were friendly and the hassle limited, the cities full of history and craftsmanship and the countryside more sparsely populated and enjoyable.

Our highlights were the blue washed mountain village Chefchaouen, the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas, Marrakesh, the relaxed Atlantic resort Essaouira and especially the drive from Todra Gorge to Dades Gorge.

A little bit disappointing were the extreme amounts of rubbish in many places coming with the according smell.

Fruits and vegetables are extremely cheap so stock up before heading into Mauritania. The olives and the olive oil are exceptionally good as well.

Mauritania Visa:

We got our Visa in Rabat on the same day with a lot of waiting in the queue.

It requires one copy of the passport and two passport photos.

Costs are 340Dirham/person (31€) for 1 month single entry valid from the desired date.
